It’s been one year since the city of Joplin, Missouri was devastated by a catastrophic tornado that cut a swath nearly a mile wide through the southwest part of the city. Many homes and businesses were flattened or moved from their foundations. Cars were turned over and destroyed, people were killed or injured and damage was extreme as the tornado followed on its deadly path.
At least 160 brave citizens of Joplin died that day. Many more were injured. There are tales of heroism, some which can be recounted with great detail and, sadly, many others that we will never know the extent of.
There are many events being held today to remember and honor the people of Joplin on this sad anniversary. We join them in spirit as they rebuild their lives and communities and wish them all the best.
