This powerful storm was reported to affect more than 102.8 million residents across a 434,000 square-mile radius during the last week of January. As cities and counties dealt with a multitude of events, ranging from record blizzards to residential carbon monoxide incidents, CodeRED personnel remained on duty to support customers throughout the entire four-day storm.
CodeRED assisted with delivering over 7.1 million calls, hundreds of thousands of texts, emails, and other forms of communication to ensure that agencies were able to effectively communicate with staff and residents. These communications involved proactive warnings, emergency instructions, and updates as the storm progressed. “This storm is one for the history books, breaking many accumulation records across the National Capitol Region and Upper and Central New York and New Jersey, and CodeRED clients were able to keep in touch with residents as warranted starting before the storm all the way through its duration,” said Troy Harper, CodeRED Product Manager. “Many of the same localities are still not out of the woods and will depend on the use of CodeRED to further notify residents of secondary storm impacts. For example, as reported by the Minuteman News Center, “ A CodeRED alert was issued by the Fairfield Connecticut Emergency Management Team of the Fairfield Police Department to beach area residents warning of possible flooding during the high tides” as a result of Winter Storm Jonas. “We anticipate some coastal flooding and want to be prepared.”
